GEORGE TOWN, April 6, 2015: The Health Ministry is in the process of seeking Goods and Services Tax (GST) exemption for private specialists who are not employees of hospitals.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya yesterday said this was to prevent confusion as health services rendered to the final consumer were exempted from the tax system.
“We are working with the Finance Ministry and Customs Department on the matter.”
He said the ministry was also awaiting exemption approval for 3,000 more types of medicines on top of more than 4,200 types medicines exempted under the National Essential Medicines List currently.
He said 120 types of medical equipment as well as more than 25,000 disposable items were also exempted from GST to assist the private health care sector reduce their cost of service.
