The silver lining
EditorialOften times, I get asked about my take of the Covid-19 pandemic. How do I wrap myself around an event that is described as once in a century. Here are some of the positive takes on it.
- The world is more hygiene concious – The new normal has resulted in mask wearing, physical distancing and better standard operating procedures regarding hygiene in public places. Someone sneezing without a mask in public places is now unseen. This will also no doubt reduce the transmission of common airborne bacteria like tuberculosis and also other airborne viruses.
- The world is more environmentally friendly – Traveling restrictions has resulted in dramatically reduced air travel. This has significantly reduced the carbon emissions worldwide. This has probably bought Mother Earth some time to recuperate.
- A real world pandemic drill – The coronovirus, SARS-COV2 or commonly known as Covid-19, is certainly contagious. However its fatality rate fortunately remains relatively low, as compared to the bubonic plaque or small pox. Many have predicted that there will come a time when a contagious and highly virulent organism will wreck havoc globally again. It is hoped that Covid-19 will teach the world and its governments and health services important lessons, so that we can mount an even better and quicker response.
So there you have it. The top 3 positive experiences from this pandemic
