Papaya leaves in dengue, are we sure?

It is rather perplexing that papaya leaves has garnered so much attention despite the evidence being sketchy.  Platelet counts are not indicative of a patient’s well being and the survival benefits in terms of mortality has not been proven. 

Yet, we are now planning on introducing this desperate measure that is sure to confuse the general public. 

This Pubmed review in 2014 likely sums up the paucity of studies and the quality of those done. Although there were some benefit, are we sure that this exercise does improve mortality which is the objective of this exercise, I presume!

There has to be a more in depth study before applying it to the masses. Let us not all be drawn into self delusion in our fight against dengue!
